If you're going to be unable to check your mail for a while, you might like to set up an automatic reply/vacation response message to let people know. To do so:
- Open the Settings → Vacation Response screen.
- Click the toggle next to Enable vacation response.
- In the text box labeled Respond with this message, type what you what your autoresponder to say.
From this screen, you can choose when the vacation response starts and ends, and whether the vacation response should go to all people who contact you or only your contacts. You can also choose to have the vacation response set only for certain email addresses you have.
Auto-replies will be sent for as long as the toggle is enabled. A reply will be sent to the same address no more than once every 3 days, no matter how many times someone emails you. This is to make sure that people sending messages to you do not get multiple identical auto-replies from you every day.
Auto-replies will only be sent to messages where your email address is in the
Cc field. Auto-replies will not be sent to messages that are marked as spam.
To help remind you if your auto-reply is active, a banner is displayed at the top of each conversation with shortcuts to change the settings or switch it off.
Please note that the auto-reply will not reply to emails sent from your own account. If you wish to test your auto-reply, you will need to send a test email from an external address.
