If you're going to be unable to check your mail for a while, you might like to set up an automatic reply/vacation response message to let people know. To do so:
- Open the Settings → Vacation Response screen.
- Tick Send an automated response with the message:.
- In the text box below, you can enter the response you want to send in the text field.
- Choose if the message will go to all people who contact you, or only your contacts. You can also set up a certain date range the autoreply will be in effect.
Auto-replies will be sent for as long as the box is ticked. A reply will be sent to the same address no more than once every 3 days, no matter how many times someone emails you. This is to make sure that people sending messages to you do not get multiple identical auto-replies from you every day.
Auto-replies will only be sent to messages where your email address is in the To
or Cc
field. Auto-replies will not be sent to messages that are marked as spam.
To help remind you if your auto-reply is active, a banner is displayed at the top of each conversation with shortcuts to change the settings or switch it off.
Please note that the auto-reply will not reply to emails sent from your own account. If you wish to test your auto-reply, you will need to send a test email from an external address.
