If you need to reference other emails in your mailbox, or if you just love to multi-task, you can open conversation threads or messages in new windows.
You can have multiple pop-out windows open at a time. If you adjust the size or position of a pop-out window, this will be remembered the next time you open one.
Viewing messages in a new window
You can open messages in a new window by clicking the pop-out arrow icon in the upper-right hand corner at the top of the conversation thread, next to the Print icon.
You can also open a conversation in a new window by double-clicking the conversation in your message list, or holding down the Shift key and single-clicking the conversation in your message list.
Composing, replying, or forwarding messages in a new window
You can compose messages or replies in a new window by clicking the pop-out arrow icon in the upper-right hand corner of the composer:
You can also open the composer in a new window by holding the Shift key and clicking Compose or Reply. If you prefer keyboard shortcuts, you can use Shift+R to reply in a new window, or Shift+A to reply all.
If you open the pop-out composer while replying to a conversation or editing a draft, you will see a banner that says You are editing this draft in another window at the bottom of the conversation thread in the main window. This is to prevent accidental multiple drafts.
When you click Send or Discard, the pop-out composer will automatically close. If you have the Undo send feature enabled, the undo option will be shown in the main window.
For general information on composing messages or replies, please see our Composing a message help page.
