Did you know: Fastmail has an excellent Android app which many of our users prefer to other mail apps. See our mobile app help for more details.
Android apps need their own app password to access your information. If you use your normal password or your Fastmail two step verification password on an external account, syncing to an external service won't work and you will see a password error.
Set up your Email
We have detailed guides for the following email apps:
- Gmail (native mail application for most newer devices)
- Email (native mail application, available in Android 4.x and earlier)
- K-9 Mail
- Samsung Email
Set up your calendar
Android does not support CalDAV natively, however you can easily add support by installing a CalDAV sync adapter. We have tested and recommend DAVx⁵, which is approximately $5. Once you have added your account in DAVx⁵, you can use the native Android calendar or any other calendar app and the changes will sync with Fastmail.
You will need to use an app password when setting up the app.
Set up your contacts
Android does not support CardDAV natively, however you can easily add support by installing a CardDAV sync adapter. We have tested and recommend DAVx⁵, which is approximately $5. Once you have added your account in DAVx⁵, you can use the native Android contacts or any other contacts app and the changes will sync with Fastmail.
You will need to use an app password when setting up the app.
Be aware that any pre-existing contacts already on your device do not automatically get copied back up to Fastmail with the sync: you need to import them to Fastmail first.
Set up notes support
Android does not support IMAP Notes natively, but you can use a third party app to sync your notes. When setting up your app, remember to use an app-specific password.
