This help page is for the Fastmail desktop app available on Windows, macOS, and Linux. If you're looking for information on the Fastmail mobile app available for iOS and Android, please see this page.
With the Fastmail desktop app, you can open Fastmail in its own window, separate from your web browser. Launch Fastmail directly from your dock or taskbar and find it in your platform’s app switcher.
Navigation
Navigation in the desktop app generally matches navigation in the web interface.
Some differences may be visible in the top toolbar:
- On the right-hand side of the toolbar, you'll find the Sync status icon (which looks like a cloud). See Offline support in the desktop app below for more details.
- If you are a Mac user and you have all apps toggled off in Settings → Display options, the left-hand side of the toolbar will display an Apps icon (which looks like 4 small squares). This can be used to switch between Fastmail's apps: Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Files, and Settings.
The desktop app also follows the same keyboard shortcuts as the web interface. A full list of available keyboard shortcuts is available here.
Offline support in the desktop app
Our desktop app offers full offline support. This means that even if you're not connected to the Internet, you can still read your mail, write replies, manage your calendar, and so on.
If you've made any changes in the desktop app while offline, the changes will sync as soon as you reconnect to the Internet.
The Sync status icon indicates whether the app is currently fully synced, in the process of syncing, or offline.
For more information, please see our Offline support help page.
Beta version
We also offer a beta version of the desktop app, which is available for download here.
For general information on using beta versions of Fastmail, please see our Fastmail beta help page.
